Southern California Genealogical Society and Family Research Library

Organized in 1964, the Southern California Genealogical Society and Family Research Library (SCGS) exists to foster interest in family history and genealogy, preserve genealogical materials and provide instruction in accepted and effective research techniques.  With over 40,000 volumes, the library holds one of the largest genealogical collections in the southwestern U.S.  Collections include family histories, periodicals, Los Angeles Historical Society Collection, vital records, cemetery records, maps, and local and state histories.  SCGS is in the midst The 1890 Project to recreate the 1890 U.S. Census for Los Angeles County.  When completed, the project will provide a valuable historical and genealogical resource.
