Are you ready for an author event/excuse for free food and a party at the Eastern California Museum? Join us on Saturday, June 21 at 1 o'clock in welcoming authors John and Barbara Marnell to the ECM!

They will be giving a presentation on their book, "Good Samaritans of Death Valley: Lou Wescott Beck and Rufus."

A true Death Valley story, neglected for nearly a century, recounts the efforts of a Pasadena man and his dog to rob the desert of its menace.

From 1908 until his untimely death in 1917, Lou Wescott Beck, accompanied by his dog, Rufus dedicated himself to marking water sources for desert travelers. Beck's work predated the more well-known Auto Club sign posting program.

A book about a heroic man and his cute sidekick dog? What's not to love!?
